We are pleased to present the programme for the HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival 2026 — tickets on sale now!

HUMAN is Norway’s largest documentary film festival. Every year we highlight the best and most relevant documentaries of our time. This year is no exception.

We get an intense insight into Gaza through the Cannes winner Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk. We go to the frontlines in Ukraine and the friendship between two female paramedics in the film Cuba and Alaska. We also have a special focus on Iran this year, including Oscar-nominated Cutting Through Rocks and IDFA winner Past Future Continuous, co-produced by Norwegian Oscar-winning Antipode. Our opening film A Fox Under a Pink Moon is one of the films from Iran this year. We will also screen the classic Persepolis followed by a conversation about the situation in Iran.

You can meet the Chuchagasta people in Argentina fighting for their land, you can experience the fierce music and dance that are part of the resistance struggle in the DR Congo. Get to know one of Ghana’s film pioneers and watch powerful portraits of people fighting for press freedom, such as Julian Assange and Amy Goodman.

In this year’s festival program, you can immerse yourself in a capercaillie hunt in the French forests, dive into a five-hour epic about Russian journalists’ fight against Putin and follow a Malaysian queer punk band on tour. You can also join the World Cup in oatmeal porridge, watch The Lion King being dubbed into Quechua or follow climate scientists in group therapy.

Conversation and debate on current topics are a strong feature of the festival program. We talk about fair food production, ask if the media is discouraging us, and we’ll have a new Doomsday debate. In addition, there will be director talks, breakfast screenings, premieres and parties.

This year we have a group of young film enthusiasts to curate the program HUMAN UNG. It consists of four hand-picked films that will be shown in exciting venues around Oslo. We also have an offer for the whole family, Mini-HUMAN, at Cinemateket on March 8.

HUMAN 2026 has a competition programme for new Norwegian documentaries. We have a Human Rights Human Wrongs competition programme for best film focusing on human rights. This year, we also have a new international competition programme for best international documentary.

To celebrate the art of documentary, we also invite you to a house party! It will take place on Thursday, March 5 from 7:00 PM throughout Vega Scene, on all three floors! There will be a free screening of the concert film DumDum Boys in the Valley of Death and lots of other fun.

There will also be a party on Tuesday, March 3 after the screening of Memoirs From a Dream – the film about the Norwegian band Hangface. Join the band and the filmmakers at the premiere party at Hærverk.
