No Master Territories: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image

Screenings at Kunstnernes Hus March 7-8 on the occasion of the international group exhibition No Master Territories: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image, bridging the fields of documentary and experimental film and video, offering an expansive, intersectional account of underappreciated encounters between feminism and the moving image.

The weekend of March 7-8 Kunstnernes Hus present three screenings in collaboration with HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival and Oslo Dokumentarkino as part of the exhibition:

Winter adé (Helke Misselwitz, 1988), a pioneering and illuminating group portrait of East Germany seen through the eyes of women.

Abortion (1971, Vibeke Løkkeberg) and Something Like a War (1991, Deepa Dhanraj). The screening will be followed by a conversation between Vibeke Løkkeberg and Head of Kunstnernes Hus Cinema, Silja Espolin Johnson.

Intimate Portraits. A selection of four experimental short films which exemplifies how feminist filmmakers across diverse geographical contexts have challenged traditional modes of female portraiture.

No Master Territories: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image is an international group exhibition dedicated to works of nonfiction that seek to invent new audiovisual languages for the representation of gendered experience. Concentrating primarily on the period of the 1970s to 1990s, a time when women’s liberation movements took hold internationally, it stages an expansive encounter as an act of intergenerational memory.
