Agenda Item: Erasure – Film + Talk

Language: Engelsk

Screening of the short film Agenda Item: Erasure, followed by a talk.

A group of Israeli activists and dissidents gather at theatre director Einat Weizman studio in Tel Aviv to rehearse a play based on a recently declassified transcript. The document comes from a government meeting in 1948 — the first meeting of the Israeli government in which they discussed the fate of the Palestinians in the areas they had taken control of, in what Palestinians refer to as al-Nakba, the catastrophe.

Through the dramatisation, in which the participants step into the roles of government ministers, and through the conversations that unfold during breaks, the film develops along two parallel tracks. It reconstructs the internal disagreements in 1948 over how the state should deal with the Palestinian population, and with the war crimes that had already been committed against them. At the same time, it shows the immense pressure faced in today’s Israel by those who openly oppose the occupation and the genocide in Gaza.

After the screening there will be a conversation with director Einat Weizman and Lior Yavne.

Einat Weizman is a a playwright and director specializing in political and documentary theatre

Lior Yavne is the film’s producer and the director of the human rights organisation Akevot.
