HUMAN IDFF stands in solidarity with colleagues in Ukraine
As a festival founded on the promotion and respect for human rights, HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival is appalled by the recent unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.

As a festival founded on the promotion and respect for human rights, HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival is appalled by the recent unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.
We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and with our colleagues at Docudays UA in Kyiv. A human rights documentary film festival like ours, this year’s edition of Docudays was supposed to take place on 25 March to 3 April, and would be their 19th edition. The festival is now postponed indefinitely as the Ukrainian people are fighting for survival.
In a letter, the festival writes: “We call on festivals around the world to join the online resistance to Russian aggression by talking about the war in Ukraine, protesting, and showing Ukrainian documentary film to everyone.”
We intend to honour this.
In our program, you will find the film Trenches by Loup Bureau, a strong anti-war film from the frontlines in Eastern Ukraine, and a glimpse of a European reality we hoped that we had left a long time ago. Both screenings of Trenches will be accompanied by talks, and Thursday’s screening will be accompanied by a discussion by leading experts on Ukraine and Russia.
We encourage other film festivals and members of the international documentary film community to show their support by signing this open letter, and we encourage everyone to support the Ukrainian people.
