The Eclipse
On August 11 in the year 1999, while the world celebrated a total solar eclipse, most of Serbia’s population barricaded themselves in their homes and in nuclear shelters, in fear of the lunar shadow. This essay documentary uses this event as a metaphor for the nation’s unclean conscience about the consequences of its political choices. In this way the film’s director confronts her home country Serbia’s wartime and criminal past, and the evil that is still on the loose today.
