Opening film: “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”, and festival pass!
We can finally announce which film will open this year’s festival and that you can buy festival passes!

The sun is shining and the streets are becoming less slippery, which is a sign that it is almost time to celebrate amazing documentary films. The HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival 2025 is approaching, and on Monday, March 10, at 5:30 PM, we invite you to the festival opening!
This year’s opening film is “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”, which comes straight from the Berlinale, and won the Special Jury Prize for Best International Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. It follows a Russian teacher over two years, as he documents what happens to his school in the aftermath of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. It provides a unique insight into Putin’s propaganda machine. “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” was made by David Borenstein and Pavel Ilyich Talankin. Pavel is also the film’s main character. Read more about the film further down in the article.
After the film screening, there will be a mingling and celebration of the start of the festival on the Vega stage. Stay and celebrate with us!

THIS YEAR’S OPENING FILM:
Mr. Nobody Against Putin
Directors: David Borenstein & Pavel Ilyich Talankin

“Mr. Nobody” in this documentary is the teacher Pavel Ilyich Talankin (Pasha). He works at the same school he attended, in the small town of Karabash in the Ural Mountains of Russia.
When Russia invades Ukraine, everything changes. The school is transformed into a propaganda machine for the Russian state and a recruiting center for the military. When Pasha’s own students and family members are asked to fight for Russia, he makes a life-changing and dangerous choice: He goes undercover and documents what is happening at the school.
“Mr. Nobody Against Putin” provides a rare insight into what it is like to be Russian in Russia today, under a totalitarian president who demands complete submission to his policies – a theme that is unfortunately relevant to several countries at the moment.
There are no numbered seats at the screening.
See you there!
The festival runs from March 10-16, and the rest of the festival program will be released continuously. Follow the website, Instagram or Facebook for all information. Remember to sign up for our newsletter if you haven’t already.
