Her voice was often described as a combination of Billy Holiday, Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan. While her music made her a star, her chaotic personal life stole the headlines. Her wild success, combined with a wild lifestyle and complicated love affairs, made her a favourite subject of an increasingly insistent tabloid press. Amy Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011, aged 27.
