Coexistence, My Ass!

A funny and heartwrenching film about Israel, Palestine and stand-up comedy.

Raised in Neve Shalom, a village infamous for being the one fully integrated Jewish-Arab community in Israel, stand-up comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi is living proof of the possibility of peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine. Using her unique perspective to skewer the relationship between the two nations, Noam is part of a long and proud tradition of Jewish comedy – yet it is her fellow Israelis who most object to her work.

COEXISTENCE, MY ASS! is filmed over the course of five years and weaves the evolution of Noam’s comedy career together with the disastrous evolution of Israeli-Palestinian relations. This is a documentary filled with laughter but also a tragic depiction of Israel’s turn towards rightwing authoritarianism.
