Identidad
Regi: Florencia Santucho, Rodrigo Vázquez Salessi
A personal account from one of Argentina’s stolen babies.
Argentine Daniel, a 46-year-old man, has long had doubts about who he is. He has discovered that his parents were carrying a big secret; Daniel was a stolen child. In the worst possible way, he was taken from his biological mother, one of the many thousands who “disappeared” during the horrific dictatorship in Argentina. Several hundred children were kidnapped and adopted in this manner during the military dictatorship between 1976-1983.
Thanks to the social movement of grandmothers still protesting in Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, Daniel has managed to get in touch with his biological family. The film follows him as he learns the truth about who he is and what happened to him as a newborn. This is a moving and educational film demonstrating how fundamentally important it is to know your identity, and why the reckoning with Argentina’s dark past still is relevant to this day.
