HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival is Norway’s largest dedicated documentary film festival, presenting current Norwegian and international documentaries in combination with debates, conversations, theatre performances, concerts, and more. The festival offers a diverse film programme with a strong focus on human rights and social issues.

In 2026, the school film programme is part of The Cultural Schoolbag (Den kulturelle skolesekken).

The festival will be March 3-6. with screenings at 09.30 and 12.30 every day at Vega Scene and Cinemateket.

Through this programme, students experience documentary films that address important social topics such as media literacy, source criticism, gender equality, and social control. The programme consists of four carefully selected documentary films that are directly linked to the learning objectives of the national curriculum. Each screening is followed by a discussion and Q&A with relevant experts or contributors from the film.

The films encourage students to reflect on and engage in discussion around current issues such as media literacy, critical thinking, and human rights.

For many years, the festival has presented contemporary documentary films for upper secondary school students in Oslo. We use documentary film as a starting point for academic reflection and curiosity around important and timely topics, fostering greater understanding of human rights, global development, and current social issues.

Participation is free of charge.
